Wireframe overlay rendering
by Joshua |
It has been a long time people asking how we can make a kind of "wireframe overlay" rendering. Normally we will use compositing method (e.g. photoshop) to do it but most 3ds Max diehard fans like me always want to do everything (though it may not effective, i know) in Max. And one day, the "wireframe overlay" solution comes...
Here is the result.

To do this, make sure you are using Mental Ray Renderer. (I've done test on both Max 8 and 9, and this method works on both versions.)

In the Material Editor, click Standard and change it to Composite Material.

Click the None button besides Mat 1. Choose Standard.

Assign an AO map to the Diffuse channel.

The amount of Samples affects the quality and time of rendering. Click Go Back to Parent afterwards.

Click the None button besides Mat 2. Choose Standard.

Check Wire. Choose Black as the Diffuse Color. And for me, I will set the Self-Illumination to 100 to avoid the variation of the wire color due to lighting conditions.

Assign the Material to the objects and make a rendering. Enjoy! |
